A WORD FROM THE MP
November 2006
Kampong Glam is Special
Dear Friends,
First, a BIG thank you to many of you who have kindly welcomed me since I was appointed Advisor to Jalan Besar GRC (Kampong Glam) grassroots organisations in May 2006.
I am writing this note to you after having a good time at a Good Neighbours’ Day Celebration organised by 2 Residents’ Committees and the PeaceConnect Community Service Network. Old and young participated actively. A fun games corner, mini-exhibition and performance were put up with help from our good partners, the Rochor Neighbourhood Police Post and several other agencies.
It reminded me once again of the Kampong Glam spirit that I hope we will develop and grow even stronger in the coming years.
Kampong Glam is special. It represents what Singapore is - an endearing mixture of people from all races, cultures and religions. Our residents live in a mix of rental and bigger purchased HDB flats. We are home to some of the most famous mosques, Chinese and Indian temples and churches. Singaporeユs hot spots like The Esplanade, Arab Street, Malay Heritage Centre, the National Library and SMU are also part of the Kampong Glam ward. Itユs the kind of place that never bores and is always full of surprises!
I love Kampong Glam and together with your grassroots leaders, I will partner you to build a vibrant and cosy Kampong that we will all be proud of.
Best regards,
Denise Phua Lay Peng
