UIC in Kampong Glam: Unity, Innovation and Care

Dear Friends,

Greetings for the new year!
 
I was very motivated at the 2008 Work Plan Session where more than a hundred top grassroots leaders and I spent hours planning how we can serve Kampong Glam residents better this year.
 
We have achieved a lot in 2007. We managed to organize about 400 grassroots events for our residents. Besides helping me at my weekly Meet-The-People sessions, almost 400 grassroots leaders join in monthly and other regular Committee meetings.
 
My weekly house-to-house visits with the leaders enabled us to stay in touch with many households in Kampong Glam. From these visits, residents’ needs were surfaced and followed up with agencies such as the Town Council, HDB and CDC.

My key wishes for Kampong Glam this year center on 3 Themes, namely Unity, Innovation and Caring.

Let us stay United and remain considerate to one another as we try to solve problems in our neighbourhood and constituency  together. If we all work well together as a team, the many exciting programmes we plan for 2008 can then be successful and great for everyone’s well-being.

Let us Innovate and make our events interesting so more people will join in. If you know ways of making grassroots activities more fun and relevant, volunteer your time to your RC or the Community Club!

Let us take time to be Caring to  others in Kampong Glam. We can all make Kampong Glam a gracious and courteous community. If you notice a family who needs help, help them or refer them to the relevant parties for help.
