January- April 2009: Special Emergency Bags for Kampong Glam Residents’ Emergency Preparedness.

As part of our plan to increase the Emergency Preparedness quotient of Kampong Glam residents, MP Ms Denise Phua launched our Emergency Bag distribution exercise in late 2008. A total of 9,000 Emergency Bags and Civil Defence Emergency Handbooks were distributed to all Kampong Glam households.

This bag was specially designed by the Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) and Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC). Funds were raised for the purchase of these custom-made Kampong Glam Emergency Bags. All our residents were trained to put aside a list of essential items in their bags which they can quickly take along with them during evacuations. The list includes items such as whistle, milk powder, touch light, radio, spare batteries, medical history records and a mini first-aid kit etc.

The Emergency Bags were distributed to appreciative residents during RC events from Jan 09 to Apr 09. Residents can refer to Page 70 of Civil Defence Emergency Handbook 2008 Edition for the list of recommended essential items.
