11 July 2010: INTER-FAITH FUN WALK 2010 @ KAMPONG GLAM.

About 1,000 participants comprising IRCC members, religious and community leaders and residents took part in the 3-km Inter-Faith Walk. Guest-of-Honour, Ms Denise Phua, MP for Jalan Besar GRC and Advisor to Kampong Glam Grassroots Organizations and IRCC, joined participants in the walk from the start to the finish.
The walk took participants through 4 stations which featured the various religious organizations in Kampong Glam:
-Kampong Kapor Methodist Church;
-Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple;
-Sri Krishnan Temple;
-Church of Our Lady of Lourdes; and
-Masjid Sultan Mosque.
Participants joined the group at each station and are welcomed by the religious leaders there. They then proceeded as ONE body to Kampong Glam Community Club where they were welcomed by the YOG mascots, Lyo and Merly from Ministry of Community Development and Sports (MCYS).
The event aims to promote inter-faith awareness among the community and foster inter-faith harmony among the participants. Participants enjoyed a simple dinner of lasi lemak and were entertained by an ethnic show of music and dances. Participants received a goodie bag and visited the various booths of community awareness manned by LTA, NEA and SPF. The event ended with lucky draws and the singing of “Beautiful Sunday”. It was indeed a beautiful and meaningful Sunday.
GOH said “I think this is one of the best grassroots activities we’d ever had, thanks to the teamwork and professionalism of everyone involved. It is meaningful, engaging and supported by many. Also, thank you all for your participation, contribution and support. Together, we serve and make Singapore a better home for all of us.”
We would like to thank the station’s performances by Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades bagpipe, the classic performance of musical instruments from Sri Krishnan Temple, the Hwa Chong Institution singing group, the Kompang and Silat; and Kampong Glam CC Lion Dance Troupe.
