By 7.45 am, more than 800 residents and grassroots members had gathered at the Kampong Glam CC. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and our 44th National Day Observance Ceremony & Health Walk 2009.
Some 50 people were invited on stage, representing the young, old, locals and new citizens, and different religious and ethnic groups. Led by Guest-of-honor, MP for Jalan Besar GRC and Advisor to Kampong Glam GROs, Ms Denise Phua, everyone sang the National Anthem and said the Pledge, loud and proud. It was Singapore’s 44th Birthday and a sea of colours and jubilance at the hall! The crowd sang more National songs and worked-out before taking the 2-km health walk around the vicinity.
Ms Phua shared that this is not only Singapore’s 44th year of independence but also our 50th year of self-government. She reminded us of PM’s National Day Message that despite our humble beginnings, Singapore and Singaporeans have thrived and overcome many challenges over the years and one key reason is the ‘unity’ within our ‘community’.
Indeed, together in unity, we will build a better Singapore, a better Kampong Glam and a better Home for all.
