It was a jubilant Sunday afternoon at the Kampong Glam Scholarship and Bursary Presentation on 4 January 2009.
366 students received the following Education Awards worth a total of $70,100/-:
- MOE Edusave Scholarship Awards worth $27,200 by 95 students
- MOE Edusave Merit Bursary Awards worth $35,900 by 165 students
- Kampong Glam Citizens’ Consultative Committee /Ted De Ponti Bursary Awards worth $4.500 by 35 students
- Kampong Glam Citizens’ Consultative Committee Book Prize Awards worth $3,500 by 70 students
Guest of Honour, MP Ms Denise Phua reminded the recipients to thank their families, school leaders and teachers and volunteers for helping them achieve these awards.
She stressed that building one’s character is more important than pure academic achievements. She reminded all to one do the right thing in life even when no one is watching; and two, reap the joy of doing something good unconditionally for others, without expecting something in return.
At the end of the ceremony, Ms Phua asked everyone to help the cleaners and the event volunteers by clearing up and stacking away their own chairs. She also requests for inputs to make the ceremony even more meaningful and engaging next year.
Indeed, our deep appreciation to Ms Phua, the grassroots volunteers and staff from Mendaki, Family Service Centre and Central Singapore CDC for their great support to the event.
