Some 1000 residents and children turned up for the event from 9 am to 1 pm. It was an outstanding partnership amongst the Kampong Glam Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC) led by Mr Tay Kerk Khong, PBM, the Singapore Civil Defence Force led by LTC Yap Kok Boon, the Singapore Police Force, People’s Association Community Engagement Programme Unit, Land Transport Authority, National Environment Agency and very importantly, Stamford Primary School led by Mr Yong Cheng Huat.

Guest-of-honor, Ms Denise Phua launched the Kampong Glam Emergency Bag. 9,000 of these bags will be distributed in RC events to residents between January to February 2009.

Students participated in highlighting some 10 items that must go into the Bag. These included the whistle, milk powder, touch light, radio and a mini first-aid kit. Residents received goodie bags and participated in a tele-match, children took up in coloring contests. It was an educational and fun-filled morning with rides on the Civil Defence’s Combine Platform Ladder (CPL) which can go up to 32 metres (about 9-storey high).
